Though this is a challenging cycling day, the effort is richly rewarded with some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in southern Portugal. Following stunning trails along the shoreline, you will reach the extraordinary Ponta da Piedade, where golden cliffs, sea caves, arches, and sculpted rock formations rise above the crystal-clear blue-green waters in a breathtaking display of colour and light. This magical corner of the Algarve feels like a hidden paradise, made even more special by the seabirds gliding above the cliffs and the peaceful rhythm of the ocean below. As the route continues east, you pass through beautiful landscapes and quiet coastal villages before arriving in Lagos, a lively and historic town that provides the perfect ending to an unforgettable day on the bike.

Day 3 - Lagos to Silves 49 Km + 500m

Discover Silves and its Moorish heritage.
Today’s ride takes you from the Atlantic coast into the peaceful heart of the Algarve. After passing the wide golden sands of Meia Praia and crossing the Bensafrim River, the route follows quiet roads through Odiáxere and a beautiful rural valley shaped by the Odelouca stream. The scenery gradually changes from coastal landscapes to fertile countryside, offering a more authentic and tranquil side of the region.
The day ends in Silves, one of the Algarve’s most historic and atmospheric towns. Crowned by its impressive red castle and marked by a strong Moorish heritage, Silves provides a memorable finale to this stage. It is a ride rich in natural beauty, rural charm, and cultural character, connecting two distinct yet equally captivating faces of the Algarve.

Starting in Silves, a town rich in medieval character and crowned by its impressive castle, the route leads you through the peaceful landscapes of the Algarve’s interior. As you continue toward Lagoa and follow the gentle course of the Rio Arade, you will discover fertile valleys, quiet roads, and an authentic rural atmosphere that reveals a different side of the region. Further on, the charm of Ferragudo, with its whitewashed houses and fishing-village soul, invites a moment to slow down before the scenery turns even more dramatic at Farol da Ponta do Altar, where the Atlantic opens before you in spectacular fashion. The day ends in Carvoeiro, one of the Algarve’s most picturesque coastal villages, where golden cliffs, turquoise waters, and postcard-perfect views provide a truly memorable finale.

Leaving the hotel behind, you ride toward the stunning Nossa Senhora da Rocha, where a charming chapel stands dramatically atop a rocky promontory dividing two picturesque beaches. From this privileged viewpoint, the Atlantic stretches endlessly before you, setting the tone for a day full of beauty and discovery. The route then continues to Armação de Pera, a town shaped by its strong fishing heritage and coastal history, before leading you to the peaceful landscapes of Salgados Beach and Lagoon, one of the Algarve’s most important natural areas, rich in birdlife and ecological beauty. After passing through Albufeira, with its lively character and seaside energy, the day ends in Vilamoura, where the elegant marina, relaxed atmosphere, and refined coastal setting provide the perfect conclusion to a ride filled with scenic variety, cultural charm, and the very best of the Algarve coast.

Meet the beautiful Ria Formosa Natural Reserve.
Starting near Vilamoura Marina, one of the most elegant and lively spots in the Algarve, the route follows the coast through Quarteira, a town with strong fishing traditions and an authentic seaside atmosphere. Along the way, you pass quiet stretches such as Praia do Almargem, where dunes, pine trees, and the Atlantic create a peaceful natural setting.
As you continue east, the landscapes become even richer in wildlife and beauty. The trail leads through the Ludo area and the extraordinary Ria Formosa Natural Reserve, one of the Algarve’s most precious natural treasures, known for its wetlands, birdlife, and ever-changing lagoon scenery. The day ends in Faro, the historic capital of the Algarve, where ancient walls, cobbled streets, and a vibrant local character provide the perfect finale to a stage filled with nature, sea views, and southern charm.
