Day 1 - Pick up and reception |
Pick up and reception at Lisbon Airport followed by a short transfer (60 km) to the overnight accommodation in Setúbal or Tróia.
The city of Setúbal is located on the northern bank of the Sado River estuary, approximately 48 kilometres (30 miles) south of Portugal's capital, Lisbon. In the beginning of the 20th century, Setúbal was the most important center of Portugal's fishing industry, particularly specializing in processing and exporting sardines. The still existing maritime ports, either traditional, commercial and the new marines, keep the city links to the ocean and water well alive and vibrant. Tourism, based on the beautiful existing natural conditions plus excellent hotels, resorts and infrastructures, is one of the city's most appreciated resources, due to its interconnection with the Sado (river).
The Troia Peninsula is a sandy beach more than 25 km long. In the northern part of the peninsula you can visit the Roman ruins of Troia, which remained in operation between the 1st and the 6th centuries. In the last decades of the 20th century, several tourism companies were built in Troia, which greatly developed the peninsula. The coastal landscape is characterized by a low coast with a continuous sandy beach, sometimes made up of reddish sediments from recent sandy cliffs.

Away from the holiday villas, bars and restaurants, is the busy port and the lively marina. From the tip of Ponta de Sagres up the coast to cape “Cabo São Vicente” there are great views. Now a days the cape is better known for its lighthouse with one of the most powerful lamps in Europe.

You can walk through the grid of streets in Baixa Pombalina that opens to the Praça do Comércio and, following the river, get to know some of the most beautiful places in the city: the monumental area of Belém with World Heritage monuments, medieval neighbourhoods, and also areas with more recent or contemporary leisure facilities, such as the Parque das Nações and the Docks.
