How to go to Régua

From Porto Airport: take the metro or taxi to Campanhã station, and then take the train to Régua or Pocinho. 
Metro 1.85€ (title Z4) / Taxi 14€ / Train 9.60€

By car: Follow the highway A4 to Vila real, and then the highway A24 towards Régua. Fuel around 10€ and tolls around 6€.

Private transfer: Pick up at the Porto airport or other location. 200€ per transfer. 

Situated on the banks of the River Douro, Peso da Régua played a fundamental role in the production and sale of Port wine, for it was from here that the barrels were transported in the special boats known as "barcos rabelos" to Vila Nova de Gaia, where the wine was left to age in the local wine lodges.

Cycling day, mostly on no traffic roads, that starts and ends in the village of Fontelas 4 km distance from Régua. The path crosses small villages located in the unique landscape from Douro with its stair-like terraced vineyards. Along the first part, a 6 Km climb, the view over the river and the city of Régua is breathtaking. At the end, the path takes you through one traditional farm of Douro with the option to visit and enjoy a wine tasting.

Cycling, along the river Douro between the villages of Régua and Pinhão on road N222 considered one of the most beautiful roads of the world. The path crosses small villages, like, for example, Folgosa, one of the places where the margins of the river are wider apart, forming a beautiful landscape. Here, it is also possible to make a stop and have lunch at one of the most famous restaurants of Douro. Optionally, it is also possible to visit a Farm with Wine Tasting.

At the highest part of the path, the landscape over the river and the mountains with the terraced vineyards, create a unique and beautiful image of the Douro

The day starts with a boat trip in river Douro (1 hour) followed by a nice bike trip until the historical city of Lamego with some worth seeing monuments, with highlight to the Sé. This is the city that hosts the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios with its imponent staircase of 686 steps. The route unwinds in local roads with no traffic crossing small and beautiful villages. After exiting Lamego towards Régua there are 12 km downhill, amidst the vineyards, along road N2 that crosses Portugal from North to South and is, nowadays, one of the touristic attractions of our country.
