Walking Douro Valley Portugal

Program in the Douro region with fantastic tracks on the slopes and vineyards that characterise this region, considered World Heritage by UNESCO in 2001. At the end, the exceptional city of Porto! Porto has lots of attractions and a vast historical and architectural patrimony, with a history stretching back thousands of years. The historical centre of Porto was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO (in 1996) and includes cascading houses tumbling down to Ribeira, the Cathedral and the Clérigos Tower, exquisite buildings and baroque churches. Porto is also a lively and creative city and is a venue for reputed cultural and artistic events.

 Day by Day

 Day 1 - Pick up at Régua train station

Pick up at Régua train station.
Reception and briefing at the hotel: Rural Tourism Accommodation (Casa Nª Sra. Do Carmo).

How to go to Régua

From Porto Airport: take the metro or taxi to Campanhã station, and then take the train to Régua or Pocinho. 
Metro 1.85€ (title Z4) / Taxi 14€ / Train 9.60€

By car: Follow the highway A4 to Vila real, and then the highway A24 towards Régua. Fuel around 10€ and tolls around 6€.

Private transfer: Pick up at the Porto airport or other location. 200€ per transfer.

 Day 2 - Walking on the slopes of Régua

DISTANCE: 13 KM
DIFFICULTY: SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT
ACCUMULATED CLIMB: 600 M 

Track throughout the slopes of Régua, passing by small villages and gorgeous vineyards.

Places to visit:  Roman bridges, vineyards

 Day 3 - Walking vineyards and olive groves

DISTANCE: 14 KM
DIFFICULTY: SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT
ACCUMULATED CLIMB: 400 M 

Track throughout the slopes of Régua, passing by small villages and gorgeous vineyards. On this day you will also have the chance to see big olive groves, and a big variety of the typical flora of the area. Get your camera ready!

 Day 4 - Walking Pinhão slopes and boat trip

DISTANCE: 6 KM + Boat trip 
DIFFICULTY: SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT
ACCUMULATED CLIMB: 400 M 

Hike on the slopes of Pinhão, with an outstanding view over the Douro River. Take a boat trip to get to know the city from a water point of view! This is the perfect day to take as many pictures as you can!

 Day 5 - Walking vineyards

DISTANCE: 14 KM 
DIFFICULTY: SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT
ACCUMULATED CLIMB: 700 M 

This day will start with a transfer to Lamego, where the track begins. The first part of the track will include the Nossa Senhora dos Remédios staircase, and after that you will have some time to freely explore the city! 

Later on, you will hop on a transfer that will take to the start of the second part of this fun day. This second track starts on a small village near Lamego and finishes in Régua. The hiking day will take you through the middle of extensive vineyards, with a view over Régua and the river.

Our transfer will then take you to the hotel.

 Day 6 - Transfer to Porto

Transfer to Régua train station. Train from Régua to Porto.

Welcome to Porto! Enjoy this amazing city with its indescribable mysticism. Take the rest of the day to experience the city, taste the food, go to the top of the hills, and interact with the lovely people. This is the last day of your journey, make the most of it!

Places to visit: Luís I bridge, Lello bookstore, Clérigos church, Bolsa palace, Gardens of the Crystal Palace, Music House, Aliados Avenue, Cais da Ribeira, Bolhão market, Ribeirinha area, try Port Wine and a Francesinha

Levels

Easy - No walking experience necessary. No hills or not steep hills, short duration.
Medium - A little longer, with some hills that are not steep or only a few hills but steep.  
Difficult - Requires good physical condition. Are usually long and with several hills of all type. 

The participants should take into account the terrain and the km/miles of each route and be sure to check in advance that they are in good physical condition to do it.
